In 1868 she produced Valentine and Christmas cards for Marcus Ward, Belfast. In the beginning many critics criticized her work but it won the hearts of the English people as well as those in America and the rest of the world. She went on to write many much loved children’s books. She also wrote yearly almanacs (1888-1897) which were very popular. She died in London, in 1901.
