The scrolls in the center may be simply outline or filled in with fancy stitches. Gold thread crossed with silk might be used for this center.
The violets should be worked with four shades of purple, close in color, stems with 2 shades of green close in color, in SOLID KENSINGTON. The scrolls would look well in white, straw, or the palest green. The scallops may be outlined with floss of palest green, or violet.
MATERIALS – About 1 dozen skeins colored floss. A fine quality of linen would be good for this design. The size of finished piece is 19 x 19 inches.
For more embroidered centerpiece or doily designs see the following pages. These were especially adapted to tray or centerpieces but the difference between a centerpiece and doily is so unclear that the purpose of the embroidered piece is simply a matter of choice.
