Raised Overcast Stitch

The Raised Overcast Stitch is sometimes called the Laid Stem Stitch. It is an outline stitch which is raised by working over a straight silk or cord that follows the outline. One thread of silk or cord is laid along the outline and secured by the Overcast Stitch. (See Overcast Stitch ).


This gives a heavy raised outline effect suitable for elaborate work. See illustration below.
