A Few Items of Interest

Hi, Everyone.

I would like to wish all mothers a Happy Mother's Day. I hope this day finds you surrounded by loved ones.

Last month really flew by. Before I knew it, I was late getting out the monthly VEAC newsletter. I have spent the last month getting another part of Beeton's Book of Embroidery ready. It's not quite there yet but I hope to have it ready by next month.

What's New!

Redwork

If you like Redwork there is a lot of information about it now on the site. If you donít know anything about it, you might find it very interesting. I never dreamed that such a simple embroidery technique could have such beautiful results. You owe it to yourself to learn a little bit about this.

I will be adding Redwork designs in the future for those of you who might want to give it a try.

Check these out. You'll be glad you did!

There are two sites that I would like to share with you.

One is a site called Otsiningo.

If you like beading, you will absolutely LOVE this site. It has lots of pictures. This site features 19th century Iroquois beadwork. I don't know if the Iroquois were inspired by Victorian embroidery or the other way around but I do know that the work shown on this site is exquisite! Even if you don't plan on working with beads, check it out. The craftsmanship is phenomenal.

The other site I think you may be interested in is actually the newsletter of Dover Publications. You may already know them as publishers of craft books. Each month they inform you of what books they have on sale. What's great is that they usually include a couple of pages that you can download. You can get great Victorian clipart, designs, and ideas from there. Of course, there are many non-Victorian books advertised but sometimes even they have something you may be able to use - for example, a picture from a coloring book may be just perfect for a design for a Redwork quilt block. Sign up here and see what you think. If you don't like it, you can always unsubscribe from it.

That's it for this month's newsletter.

Until next time,

Mary
